Indian Education system - Is it a looser??
Reservation, no reservation, Supreme court, Education Minister, OBC, SC/ST -
so much hue and cry for what? Is Indian education system worthy of such high drama? Is Indian education system such a big achiever? I belong to IT industry and take great pride in the success of Bangalore and Hyderabad. I completely agree that besides able leadership, the education system has played an equally pivotal role in the success of IT carnival. Our education system is churning out thousand of engineers every year to meet the demand of the industry. But is that the only role education system is supposed to play in a society? Isn't the role of education system far more then competent workers? Education metamorphoses homosapiens into Humans. It evolves to evolve the society. But has our education system brought in any change in last 60 years. Has it been successful in breaking down the shackles of old ill practices of Indian society? My concern is not those remote locales of our country where education hasn't seeped in but towns and cities. If there are cases of dowry, abuse of women, female infanticides in the small villages - it is still excusable as we are a poor developing nation (don’t know for how long??). But how does it sound when an I.T. guy demands dowry of 25 lakhs in Hyderabad/Mumbai/Bangalore - isn't it failure of education system. The excuses which these so called "Educated Urbane" make are even more peeving. They blame the norms of the society and parental pressure for there helplessness. The humans lie on the top of the food chain because we could evolve ourselves physically and socially to survive the changes. Why have we ceased that process? Why are we not amending the age old social norms to suit our present milieu? Its not that we don’t want society to change but we all want someone else to bring that change for us. Well to be honest, I have never expected our education system to give out revolutionaries. This education system is fit to produce a large army of "doers”. It snatched away the ability to think from the students. It encourages roting of books right from the onset, gradually the inquisitiveness of the tender mind dies. Questions are always looked down upon, adherence to old practices is applauded and exams results are only measure of brilliance - by the time child reaches teenage the mind forgets to question. Then how can such a subdued mind ever dare to question age old practices of the world’s oldest society? Come on India, before reengineering the Business solutions for the world lets reengineer few of our obsolete systems.
